Questions

Are these online meditation groups really free?

Most are free or offered on a donation (dana) basis, which means you can join without paying and give what you can if you'd like to support the teachers. Each listing shows whether it is free, donation-based or paid, and links to the organiser's own page.

Do I need to be Buddhist to join?

No. Every group listed here welcomes newcomers, and many people who sit with Zen, Insight or Plum Village groups don't identify as Buddhist. If you'd prefer no religious framing at all, filter by Secular mindfulness.

How are the times converted to my time zone?

Each group's schedule is stored in the time zone the organiser publishes it in (for example America/Los_Angeles or Europe/London). Your browser detects your own time zone and converts every session, including daylight-saving changes. You can also pick a different time zone at the top of the schedule.

What should I do before joining my first online sit?

Open the group's official page a few minutes early, since some groups ask you to register or email for a link. Install Zoom if needed, keep your microphone muted, and find a quiet seat. It's always fine to keep your camera off or simply listen.

How do you keep the listings up to date?

Every listing is checked against the organiser's own schedule page and shows the date it was last verified, and an automated check flags broken links. Schedules do change, so please confirm on the organiser's page — and tell us if something is out of date.
